What you need for a reading
To get the most from Starlight you need your date of birth, ideally your birth time and place, and your full name as it appears on your birth certificate. Here is why each detail matters and what to do if you do not know one.
The full deep dive
Your date of birth
This is the one thing every reading needs. From it Starlight works out your Sun sign, your Chinese zodiac animal and element, and your Life Path number.
If you were born in January or February, the exact date matters for your Chinese animal, because the zodiac year begins at Lunar New Year. Someone born on 20 January 1990, for example, is a Snake, not a Horse.
Your birth time
The time lets Starlight work out your Rising sign and the twelve houses of your chart, which change every couple of hours. Your Moon sign can also depend on it, since the Moon changes sign about every two and a half days.
The best sources are a birth certificate (in some countries the time is recorded on it), a hospital record, a baby book, or a parent’s memory. If you only know roughly, such as “early morning”, that still helps. If you do not know at all, Starlight will still give you a full reading of the planets by sign, and leave out the parts that need the time.
Your birthplace
The place matters because the sky looks different from different parts of the world. A town or city is accurate enough. Starlight converts your local time into world time behind the scenes, including summer time where it applied.
Your full birth name
For the name numbers, use your full name as it was first registered at birth, including middle names. Numerologists treat this as your original blueprint. You can also try the name you use every day: many people find that it describes how they show up in the world now.
Your privacy
Readings are worked out in your own browser. Starlight does not need an account and does not store your details.
