Numerology compatibility
In numerology, Life Path numbers fall into three families that tend to understand each other: 1, 5 and 7; 2, 4 and 8; and 3, 6 and 9. Here is how two numbers get on and what to look for when they are different.
The full deep dive
The three number families
| Family | Numbers | What they share |
|---|---|---|
| Independent minds | 1, 5, 7 | need for freedom, thinking for themselves |
| Steady builders | 2, 4, 8 (and 11, 22) | love of security, structure and commitment |
| Creative hearts | 3, 6, 9 (and 33) | warmth, expression and care for others |
Two people from the same family usually “get” each other quickly, because they want similar things from life.
Across families
Matches between families are not bad: they are complementary. A 1 (independent) with a 6 (caring) can make a wonderful team if the 1 values the 6’s warmth and the 6 gives the 1 room to lead. The key is to understand that you are motivated by different things.
Same number
Two people with the same Life Path understand each other deeply but can share the same blind spots. Two 8s may both want to be in charge; two 2s may both wait for the other to decide.
Beyond the Life Path
For a fuller picture, numerologists also compare Soul Urge numbers (what each person longs for) and Expression numbers (how each person goes about things). A couple with different Life Paths but matching Soul Urges often feel a deep, unspoken bond.
